The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Michigan Health has been a pioneer in orthopedic surgery care, research, and education since 1930. The diverse clinical faculty have specialized training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, pediatric orthopedics, joint reconstructive surgery, orthopedic trauma and fractures, hand and upper extremity surgery, foot and ankle surgery, spine surgery, and orthopedic oncology. Our surgeons performed close to 7,000 procedures per year and all providers, including advanced practice and non-operative physicians, see approximately 100,000 outpatient visits. At present, we have 39 clinician faculty. As international leaders in musculoskeletal research 11 basic science faculty focused on bone, joint, tendon, and ligament formation, function, injury and disease, working closely with clinicians to discover new treatments that accelerate musculoskeletal tissue healing and remodeling, improve the utilization and effectiveness of healthcare delivery through programs such as the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI) and develop new strategies to prevent injuries and diseases.
