The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks innovative and highly motivated master’s-degree or doctorally prepared physician assistants and nurse practitioners to join the faculty as clinician educators. Clinician educators serve in a unique role providing both clinical care and clinical teaching activities, including didactic sessions and clinical skills lab, along with curriculum development, student assessments, and coordination of course activities related to the didactic and clinical phases of the program. This search is open to all specialties of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. While all NPs and PAs are welcome and encouraged to apply, the school is particularly interested in Women's Health, Mental Health, and Pediatrics.
Part-time and full-time, non-tenured positions at the Assistant and Associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series or full-time Clinical X Series are available at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited Children’s Hospital, and an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Practice locations include UC Davis Health Medical Center, UC Davis department and primary care network clinics, Sacramento County clinics, local FQHCs and other clinical sites.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinician educators may spend 20-50 percent time in teaching. Responsibilities include working in collaboration with the program directors and program faculty to ensure quality program curriculum and instruction in the didactic phase of the program. Duties include course management, teaching, skills labs, student advisement, and student formative and summative evaluation. Responsibilities may also include participation in student remediation, test writing and analysis, program admissions, accreditation processes and program assessment to include serving on committees essential to the nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs and school’s functioning.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
Successful full-time candidates provide clinical services approximately 50 to 80 percent of the time. The clinical placements may be at UC Davis Health, in an external community setting, or in our new SON Nurse-Led Mobile Clinic that is starting in 2023. This role includes direct patient care and precepting graduate nurse practitioner and physician assistant students from the School of Nursing. The incumbent mentors students in the clinical setting. This includes overseeing procedures, providing feedback, and assisting with training, and evaluating student performance. Specific roles will vary depending on experience levels and the needs of the School of Nursing. These clinician educators will also be involved in scholarly activity and committee service commensurate with this position. Successful part-time candidates will do a prorated portion of the activities described above.

A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series or Clinical X Series is evaluated by the following criteria, which is appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically relevant teaching and patient care services and also according to the needs of the school and the individual’s responsibilities in the specific discipline.
