Postdoctoral Scholar in Microbiology and/or Immunology:
The Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas Bernthal will perform translational research to understand how pathogens promote chronic implant associated infections and how the host immune system recognizes and responds to pathogens in the unique bone-implant microenvironment. Successful candidates will conduct innovative research to understand the mechanisms underlying this host-pathogen interaction and attempt to uncover novel translational modalities for clinical prevention and therapy. This position requires a Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, or a related field. The Postdoctoral Scholar position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step is commensurate with experience.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities of this position include protocol maintenance, study design, animal work, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.
Additional Duties: • Ability to work independently on scientific projects. • Assist with the preparation of grant proposals. • Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. • Required to communicate well with other scientists locally, nationally, or internationally. • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously. • Ability to execute complex immunology experiments including isolation of immune cells, stimulation assays, multi-color flow cytometry and cytokine profiling. AND/OR Ability to execute microbiological experiments including planktonic bacterial growth and killing assays, biofilm quantitation, and confocal microscopy.
