Our MUSC Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal care team offers multiple specialties including Pediatrics, Total joint, Spine, Sports medicine, Trauma, Foot and ankle, Hand, PM&R, and pain management. Our team provides high quality care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider. We room patient’s, obtain vital signs, document in electronic medical record, prep clinics, patient phone calls, set up injections, and assist with minor procedures. The care team is trained through each specialty so we’re able to work together to provide the best care for our patients. Monday - Friday day shift. No weekends, evenings, holidays, or night shifts! Free on site parking.
Responsible for high quality casting, splinting services and providing patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a clinical practice setting. May be required to provide back up support for other locations.

Job Description
Apply, adjust and remove casts
Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devices
Assist Orthopedic Surgeon in reduction of fractures
Instruct patient in proper care of cast and splints, including walking with casts and boots
Instructing patients with the use of crutches, cast care and DME
Change dressing and care for wounds
Remove sutures, staples, etc.
Clean and stock patient exam and treatment rooms.
Order medical supplies and manage DME inventory
Assist in making follow-up appointments and consultation appointments with specialists for patients.
Adhere to established clinic/office policy and procedure directives
EMR documentation of services performed
Manage patient care flow by rooming patients in a timely manner , informing physician when patient is ready to be seen.
Perform a broad spectrum of duties including pre-visit preparation, assisting with the patient visit, and post-visit duties
Thorough knowledge and understanding of protocol, procedures, and standards within casting area of expertise.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
Additional Job Description
Required Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a medical assisting program, or hospital corpsman, or completion of Ortho School or on the job training with another cast technician and have one year experience in related area of practice.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current BLS. Prefer certifcation through (AMT) American Medical Technologist or (AAMA) American Association of Medical Assistants or Military trained with appropriate military certification or accredited by Certified Athletic Trainer program.
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
