Job Description

The Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the Yale School of Medicine, in collaboration with Yale Health, seek a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician for a faculty position. This position is 60% effort as the Head Primary Care Physician for Yale Athletics and 40% effort as an academic clinician in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Division of Sports Medicine Responsibilities of the Head Primary Care Physician for Yale Athletics include provision of comprehensive medical care for varsity student athletes, including evaluation and treatment of injuries and illnesses associated with participation in athletic activities as well as implementing programs for wellness and illness/injury prevention.  Care is delivered at Yale Health, in athletic training facilities and on the sidelines.  The Head Primary Care Physician leads the Yale Athletic Medicine team in decisions related to the medical aspects of sport and partners with the Head Team Physician in Athletic Medicine program development and clinical leadership. Collaboration with Primary Care Sports Medicine colleagues, Orthopedic Surgery colleagues, specialty consultants, Athletic department staff, mental health providers, and other key stakeholders is essential. Clinical responsibilities in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Division of Sports Medicine consist of providing comprehensive sports medicine care in the outpatient setting, including evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and pain for adult and adolescent patients in the New Haven, CT area. Active participation in the educational and academic missions of the department is expected, with the possibility of participation in non-Yale Athletics team and sport event coverage opportunities and community outreach programs. Yale Health is the on-campus, multidisciplinary health maintenance organization (HMO) serving more than 45,000 member of the Yale community and their families.  Working with Student Health, Yale Athletic Medicine provides primary medical care to all ~1,000 undergraduate student-athletes, representing 35 Division 1 intercollegiate teams.  Athletic Medicine collaborates closely with Mental Health and Counseling, Acute Care, and the 24/7 on-site Inpatient Care Facility. Access to multiple on-site subspecialties, the pharmacy, diagnostic radiology, and laboratory rounds out our ability to provide comprehensive and timely care. The Yale Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation, Division of Sports Medicine, consists of a group of dedicated and experienced orthopaedic surgeons and non-operative sports medicine health care professionals, who provide comprehensive sports medicine care to adults and children in Southern Connecticut. Members of the division include nationally recognized leaders in patient care and research, who have extensive experience working with Olympic teams and local professional, collegiate, and high school teams and club teams. Most Yale Orthopaedics practice locations are within 20 minutes of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s downtown location.
