Job Description

The Illien-Junger Lab at the Department of Orthopaedics at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral fellow in the repair and regeneration of orthopaedic soft tissues with a PhD in biological, biomechanical or related fields. The research fellow will use a combination of biological and mechanobiological techniques to study soft tissue repair and regeneration to enhance tissue function. Experience with biomechanics, cell culture models, and mouse models, are highly desirable. The ability to work with mice will be integral to this project. The candidate will be able to develop a broad set of research skills in biomechanical engineering, cell biology, and mouse models, lead their own project, and publish and present research findings. Successful candidates will be working on funded basic and translational projects focused on Intervertebral disc regeneration Our ideal candidates would be seeking a future research career in musculoskeletal research. Career advancement opportunities through application to foundation or training grants will be highly encouraged as part of fellows’ mentorship plan. Candidates are expected to work both independently and as a part of a larger orthopaedic department. Candidates must be capable of independently designing and performing experiments with appropriate training and minimal supervision. Candidates should have Effective communication skills, self-motivated with a strong work ethic Candidates should have a proven ability to disseminate their results in peer reviewed publications and presentations. Candidates need to be eligible to work in the United States.   Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working in the skeletal field. Priority will be given to individuals with a strong background in skeletal biology and biomechanics.     The appointment will be within the Emory Musculoskeletal Research Center in the Department of Orthopaedics, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta GA.
