ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER GENERAL HOSPITAL DUTIES (not all inclusive): Represent the Hughston Clinic and should maintain the highest level of professionalism during all interactions with patients, hospital staff, family and support members as well as other care providers Assists with call duties including nights, weekend and holidays. Performs comprehensive hospital based examinations and documents such in a timely manner. Evaluates and treats orthopaedic conditions and relevant medical comorbidities within his/her scope including: routine, urgent and emergency conditions within the hospital and emergency department Specifically: wound assessment and local care; fracture reduction/temporary immobilization, application of splints and dressings; interpretation of imaging, vital signs and lab studies, and evolving/changing clinical conditions Effectively communicates history and findings with responsible HOT physician on a daily basis Communicates effectively with their APP colleagues to keep them up to date on the status of their patient census. This includes changes in status, laboratory or diagnostic results, or new communications with other services. Provides robust, ongoing, professional communication of the orthopaedic care plan with additional providers on the patient’s care team. Facilitates patients discharge planning including referrals to appropriate agencies and/or post-acute care facilities Assists within his/her scope of practice within the OR including first assist duties and closing operative wounds Conducts daily hospital rounds and regularly updates patient family members on status Writes orders and progress notes Enrolls new patients into PMD/charge capture software with necessary demographic data and ICD-10 diagnosis codes in a timely manner Enters charges within PMD/charge capture software CLINIC DUTIES (not all inclusive) APP facilitates clinic throughput working synergistically with HOT surgeon by: Evaluates patient concerns Exams patient Assesses/interprets imaging studies Implements and communicates care plans Documents visits as required Assists with patient requested document completion, as able, within APP scope and capacity HUGHSTON RESPONSIBILITIES Utilize effective communication skills (written and verbal) interacting with co-workers, other clinic employees, supervisors, and outside vendors. Promote The Hughston Clinic’s role in the community by greeting and interacting with all patients, families, visitors, vendors, and guests in a courteous and respectful manner. Provides support or relief for other staff as needed. Demonstrates confidentiality in all aspects to include both patient and non-patient issues. Reflect THC values and is sensitive to THC’s ethical and compliance principals in his/her daily activities. Promote resolution of concerns and conflict by routing through correct mechanism or resolving the situation. Able to prioritize daily functions/tasks Display a willingness to put forth effort in problem solving Other duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Essential Functions: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Requires occasional stooping, bending, and lifting over 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Marginal Functions: May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or climbing stairs. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and physicians. Accommodations: Combination of medical office, hospital environment. Some travel by plane/car as required for this position. Environmental Factors: May be exposed to extreme cold, toxic or caustic chemicals. Exposure to blood and/or other bodily fluids and communicable diseases. OSHA Category: I POSITION REQUIREMENTS Experience: One (1) year experience in orthopaedics preferred. One year First Assistant experience preferred. *** OR Experience Required ***. Education: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practioner program required. Surgical First Assist required or the ability to obtain within one year from hire. Special Qualifications: NCCPA or NP Board Certification required. Must maintain BLS certification. Current State and DEA Licensure required. Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include, nights, weekends and holidays. May require irregular work hours depending on the needs of the organization. Must have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Outside Relationship: Hospitals, pharmacies, labs, testing facilities, physicians, and vendors Interaction With Other Departments: All clinical departments
