The Department of Orthopedic Surgery in the School of Medicine is seeking applications for one (1) Special Payroll Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr. Danielle Rux. The lab specializes in the development and regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues and, in particular, the morphogenetic development of synovial joints and articular cartilage to inform regenerative therapies for joint diseases such as osteoarthritis. The successful candidate will be responsible for working on active research projects and contributing to published journal articles under the supervision of senor group members. This position is ideal for a candidate interested in gaining essential lab experience for medical /graduate school applications.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Genotyping for genetically modified mouse lines
Mouse handling
Mouse tissue collection, processing, and sectioning
Histologic staining and imaging
Present findings at lab meeting, conferences, and written publications
Maintain efficient laboratory operations and have general laboratory responsibilities, including ordering supplies, as assigned or directed, in order to meet the goals and objectives of the projects
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Basic knowledge of research protocols, principles and procedures
Basic knowledge of scientific techniques such as tissue culturing, reagent/solution preparation, staining, etc.
Basic knowledge of experimental design, mathematics, statistics, computer applications, laboratory equipment and procedures
Basic knowledge of a science such as Chemistry, biology, microbiology, pharmacology
Basic knowledge of physical and data resources in application scientific disciplines
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to identify, produce, organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field. No previous formal lab work experience required, but lab experience outside of required undergraduate curriculum is preferred.

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week. May occasionally include evenings and/or weekends depending on the demands of the research and/or laboratory operations.
DURATION: Approximately 18 months
HOURLY RATE: $20.00 per hour.
