Job Description

The Soragni laboratory in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCLA, is recruiting a highly motivated Specialist with expertise in 3D cell culture models. The Soragni lab focuses on the development of three dimensional models to study tumor biology and perform high-throughput drug screenings for personalized medicine. This one-year position (with possibility for renewal) is suitable for individuals with a minimum of a Bachelor degree and 2 years of previous research experience who are looking to gain further research skills in order to apply to grad school or med school. This research project is focused on establishing and characterizing 3D models of rare and ultrarare cancers, sarcomas in particular, to investigate tumor heterogeneity and develop co-culture models. The candidate will process primary samples, establish organoids and perform detailed molecular and functional characterizations to investigate the emergence of drug resistance in organoid models. A high-throughput drug screening will be performed on the established models and co-culture models to identify drug candidates. The candidate is also expected to work closely with other group members and train students and colleagues. He/she will also contribute to laboratory management tasks including lab safety and ordering. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities.
