Job Description

We are seeking a researcher to join the Soragni Lab as a Project Scientist. The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator, team members and collaborators to make significant and creative contributions to our sarcoma projects. The Project Scientist will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of our organoid pipeline, including but not limited to coordinating sample procurement, sample processing, screening schedule and operation, data transfer. The Project Scientist will also be responsible to train undergraduate and graduate students to process tissue and use automation, prepare manuscripts for publications in scientific journals and assist with preparation of grant proposals. The successful candidate should also be comfortable with clinical tissue processing. Basic working knowledge of different types of automated high throughput equipment is preferred. Ability to work independently in a high pace, multi-disciplinary environment is essential for this position. This position requires a master or PhD in Bioengineering, Biochemistry or Biology and at least 1 year of research experience in clinical sample handling. Previous experience in high throughput screening assays is preferred. The Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance, renewable depending on funding and performance. Step is commensurate with experience. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: • Coordinate and perform tissue processing, seed or bioprint tumor organoids, coordinate imaging and run drug screenings optimizing use of our established organoid pipeline • Design, develop, and implement novel cell-based plate assays to support drug discovery effort • Assist in translation projects of our automated HTS platform • Identify, develop, optimize and deploy new high-throughput screening models and assays to apply custom solutions to the unique challenges of different projects. • Work collaboratively with team members, collaborators, scientists, automation experts, and software engineers to build efficient, automated laboratory work flows in support of high throughput screening solutions. • Contribute to the overall scientific knowledge and skill level of the group through collaborating, teaching, and interacting with group members at all levels. • Work with cross-functional project teams to develop and deploy tools (both laboratory and analysis) to support the project development. • Mentor undergraduate and graduate to accomplish any of the above tasks. • Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of technical developments and scientific knowledge and apply these where possible to improve performance and data quality • Present results of work, interpret data, and draw conclusions in a fully independent manner. • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing and independently write scientific/technical reports and presentations • Must think critically and work resourcefully to resolve problems • Ability to multitask and successfully interact with a diverse team of scientists to deliver quality data and results
