Our top-rated organization is looking to add a part-time, Student Research position to our Orthopaedic Surgery Department working in the laboratory with Dr. Ernesto Canalis. This position will assist technical personnel and investigators with procedures using genetically engineered mice.
PURPOSE OF CLASS:
At UConn Health, the primary responsibilities for this class are to assist laboratory technicians with mouse colony handling under the director of the principal investigator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher rank.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Perform animal husbandry duties such as setting up genetically engineered mouse matings and weaning litters.
Monitor mice for signs of pregnancy and births.
Observe mice for any indications of discomfort or poor health.
Assign identification to mice by tattoo or by clipping ear notches and tail pieces.
Assist with mouse necropsy and tissue harvest.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
Basic Microsoft Office
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with mouse colonies.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be currently enrolled as a student in a formal accredited program upon hire.
MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF STUDENT STATUS UPON OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT: Acceptable documentation to include either a letter from an academic advisor on letterhead; or a course schedule listing current term of enrollment, name of educational institute and student's name.
SCHEDULE: Part-time, schedule to be determined based on needs of the department between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm twice a week, flexible.
The duration of this position is until August 31, 2025 and may be less or continued based on need.
HOURLY RATE: $16.35; This position is not eligible for benefits.
