Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Surgeon
The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill (UNC) is seeking a full-time board certified academic orthopaedic sports surgeon to join its team supporting student and community athletes with a special focus on expanding hip arthroscopy offerings to enhance the Hip Preservation Program at UNC. This position is at the flagship academic medical center of a statewide health care system that includes 17 hospitals and more than 5,000 affiliated providers. The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment (open rank – commensurate with experience) and will be expected to teach orthopaedics residents and fellows and be actively engaged in scholarship and research in addition to collaboration and interaction with world-class primary care sports medicine faculty.
The orthopaedic surgeon will participate in expanding and improving a robust academic program. They will participate in a clinical program that serves the academic medical center, community practices and the wider healthcare system that spans the state of North Carolina. They will provide the highest quality of patient care, while creating an academic environment that is positive and inclusive for faculty and learners.
The surgeon will work with 3 other full-time sports faculty, and various hip adjacent faculty working with other surgeons focusing on clinical growth, program development and performance to enhance a robust program creating a high quality team across the UNC healthcare system. The division currently serves 9,000 + patient per year and performs 1,300 operations at the main UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and UNC Hillsborough Hospital with recent expansion to an ambulatory surgery center in the population hub of neighboring Wake county in 2020.
