Opening Full Time   40 hours   Grade 000   Orthopaedics M&D Responsibilities The Department of Orthopaedics and the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at the University of Rochester seek applicants for a full-time faculty position as a surgeon-scientist with a clinical focus in pediatric orthopaedics.  Graduates of approved residencies in the United States or Canada, and who are either ABOS eligible or certified are encouraged to apply. Clinical activities of the position will take place in the recently constructed and “state of the art” Golisano Children’s Hospital of the University of Rochester and the satellite clinics maintained by the Department. The Department https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/orthopaedics/  is currently developing a new outpatient campus to house musculoskeletal services. The facility will be opening in 2023 and will be approximately 325,000 sq. ft. including clinic space, ambulatory surgery, clinical research, and multiple advanced therapy spaces. The successful applicant will have completed a pediatric orthopaedic fellowship, or equivalent training. They will join three other fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeons in the Division under the direction of Dr. P. Christopher Cook. Subspecialty interests within pediatric orthopaedics are welcomed; however, a “generalist” is preferred. The members of the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics provide pediatric trauma coverage at the University, which is currently pursuing pediatric level I designation.   A key aspect of the position is the role in the Center for Musculoskeletal Research (CMSR) https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/musculoskeletal-research.aspx .The CMSR, under the direction of Dr. Edward Schwarz, is a world-renowned location for musculoskeletal science and has developed a robust mentoring program for junior faculty. The successful applicant will have 0.5 FTE protected time in which to develop a robust program of independent, and eventually extramurally funded investigation. Candidates with interest in aspects of cartilage or bone biology are particularly welcome. The CMSR has established faculty with mature programs touching on nearly every aspect of musculoskeletal science who will both mentor and collaborate with the successful candidate. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to science as manifested by previous formal engagement with research. A PhD is not required.
