The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an opening for a faculty position as an Orthopaedic Shoulder/Elbow Surgeon in the tenure track. Rank will be determined based on the chosen candidate’s qualifications. Management of complex shoulder and elbow disorders will be the primary focus of the practice including arthroplasty, advanced arthroscopic techniques, and salvage reconstructive shoulder and elbow procedures. The incumbent will become part of a shoulder and elbow division with two other surgeons within an outstanding academic orthopaedic department.
Minimum requirements include completion of a residency in orthopaedic surgery and a one-year advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery, or equivalent plus board certification or board eligibility. Additional advanced training in managing shoulder and elbow trauma is preferred. Interest and experience in shoulder biomechanics and/or clinical outcomes research are preferred.
Applicants should have a sincere desire to develop and mentor others to develop focused clinical, research, and educational programs in musculoskeletal disorders, which will include publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national meetings. The shoulder and elbow division has planned to start a shoulder and elbow fellowship that is currently recognized by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons ( ASES ) with the inaugural fellow starting in the summer/fall of 2023. The applicant will participate in the training of the fellow both in the clinic and the operating room along with training orthopedic surgery residents.
Overall, candidates need to have demonstrated an exceptional academic interest and a clear track record of excellence in all aspects of orthopaedics, including clinical care, education, and clinical or basic science research.
